The Rain-X Additive allows you to keep your windscreen clean, helping to remove bug residue, tree sap and road grime from your car. The Crown Range road has a decent amount of grit and gravel on it (presumably to help mitigate the icy conditions in the winter, and also because New Zealand roads tend to be garbage quality, especially those in the South Island). This is a twisty piece of road that effectively provides a shortcut over the mountains that separate Wanaka from Queenstown. I followed the instructions b ut as soon as I got to the point where I needed sunlight, boom, cloud cover. Buff off the Rain-X Fog treatment with a dry cloth or a paper towel - ensure you don’t drive until the windscreen is completely clear.Please note I shot these images on my phone camera (a semi-recent Samsung Note) so the picture quality isn’t amazing. Windscreens should be repaired as soon as possible after the damage occurs to ensure contamination of the break is minimal, resulting in an almost invisible repair, making this kit an essential!

While I think the resin has stopped the rock crack from spreading, the damage is still obviously vis ible. Available in both a 200ml bottle or Rain-X Wipes, this product allows you to keep your visibility in all conditions. If the damage is minor enough, it may even be sufficiently permanent to not bother taking professional measures!In the photo below you can see where the gravel impacted – which looks like a chip mark – with the crack radiating out from either side. It's noticeable on the inside but it stopped spreading and my crack was about 16 inches or so long from the bottom to about mid shield.

I think the one thing people don't mention is doing the steps 4 and 5 at least 2 times, plus I added some heat to the inside of my windshield. You can still see were the original " Bulls Eyes " cracks, which in my case, were two close to each other. As previously mentioned, I can’t comment on the use of the repair device (the “pressure driver”) as I didn’t need to try this, but I imagine this would introduce an additional layer of complexity and technical challenge.One thing to note is that the kit claims it is good for multiple repairs, and certainly there are enough curing sheets supplied. However, I found this hard to scrape any excess off with, so instead worked the blade at approximately 45 degrees to the windshield, and used short, fast motions to scrape off the excess residue. When you compare this next image below to the image above of the crack (before the repair) you can see that there is a significant improvement. The windscreen specialist in Queenstown where I originally took the car made it abundantly clear that the windscreen will need full replacement, and I have already organised this with my insurance company as my car insurance offers excess-free glass cover.

The repair kit is composed of 1 gram bottle of resin repair, repair device, curing strips, and sleeved razor blade. While it might be a permanent option for some minor repairs, I suspect that many content purchasers – such as myself – always saw it as a temporary measure. Once you find the impact point that is what should be dead center in the center ring tool when you put the center ring on the windshield and press down the suction cups to hold it in place. If the manufacturer is reading this review, I would strongly encourage you to find a way of sealing the resin bottle that doesn’t require cutting the top off – for example using one of those foil seals with a cap that you invert and press into the seal to pierce it. Excessive pressure will alter the original curve of the glass affecting the flow of the repair resin and effectiveness of the repair.

It doesn't eliminate the crack completely but it made harder to notice and I feel more confident that the crack won't be growing.
