About this deal

If you installed the drivers for the CH340 on your computer but have issues connecting via serial terminal or uploading code using the Arduino IDE, there may be an issue with your user settings preventing you from using the CH340. You may receive an avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device error similar to the output shown below. language:bash PLEASE NOTE – When editing driver INF files, refer to the following document: AN_107 – Advanced Driver Options Select the Ports category to find the USB-SERIAL CH340 device. If this device is not present in the ports section, view the Other Devices. Open the plastic case (twist the USB connector and then evenly pull apart the plastic case) and change the red wire termination from the pad marked 5V or 3V3. Supports the following Windows OS

Select “Port” from the on-screen menu. If the CH340 driver is not installed, Arduino IDE won’t allow you to choose COM Ports. The PL-2303 chip provides a convenient solution for connecting a UART-like full-duplex asynchronous serial device to any Universal Serial Bus (USB) capable host. The PL-2303 highly compatible drivers could successfully simulate generic COM ports on most operating systems.Having the ability to do so, will help you debug your code, provide visual UX for your projects, and much more. By taking advantage of USB Bulk Transfer Mode, large data buffers, and automatic flow control, The PL-2303 is capable of achieving higher throughput. When real RS232 signaling is not required, baud rate higher than 115200 bps could be used for even higher performance. The flexible baud rate generator of PL-2303 could be programmed to generate any rate between 75 bps to 12M bps.

You can build your own serial monitor with whichever language you prefer (i.e Java, C++, Python, C#). Just search for a proper toolchain (toolkit) that supports building GUI applications (i.e QT for C++, .NET for C#, PyQT for python, etc). The power pin provides the 5V @ 500mA direct from the USB port and the RX/TX pins are 3.3V level for interfacing with the most common 3.3V logic level chipsets. Open the MPLAB IDE and create a new project name it “PC_Control_USB-TTL”. If you have some issues doing so, you can always refer to the previous tutorial using the link below. This product provides a VCP example, so we will only discuss the installation of the VCP driver below. Bottom line, unless you enjoy chasing down problems you will be better off buying the more expensive ftdi or other non-Chinese designed chips. March 29, 2022 at 2:57 pm
