About this deal

To help mitigate this environmental risk, the new EU directive stated that all refrigerant will need to have a global warming potential of less than 150. Unfortunately, the R134 has a potential of 1430! This high figure equates to the R134 having 1,430 times more impact on global warming than carbon dioxide. 1234YF Gas – The Cost It’s important to remember that any technician working on the A/C system should be F-Gas certified. We offer an IMI ATA approved A/C with F-gas training programme. The two-day course includes an overview of the components, how they work and how best to diagnose faults. It also covers the recently introduced EC legislation with an assessment for EC307/2008 F-gas legislation. a b c Gordon, Jacques (April 12, 2017). International Journal of Scientific & Engineering Research. 4 (8). CiteSeerX 10.1.1.415.9796. The thermal performance, non-toxic chemistry and stability are nearly the same between R-1234yf and R-134a. The primary difference between the two is R-1234yf being slightly more flammable. ASHRAE classifies R-1234yf as a “mildly-flammability” fluid (A2L); R-134a carries an A1 safety classification due to its lower flame propagation. Evaporator designs must meet JAE standard J2842. YF is tougher on evaporators then 134a and this new standard is to prevent wear and tear and premature failure. Marwa, Stefen (July 26, 2018). The AC Pro R-1234yf Air-Con Recharge replaces refrigerant and oil from your A/C system and contains UV dye to assist with detecting and locating leaks in metal and rubber components. This canister makes it easy to maintain and service your A/C system without the need for expensive equipment and training. It is designed to work with A/C PRO CERTYF102 R-1234yf Gauge and Hose only (sold separately).

Slight design differences in the design specs of certain components like TXVs, ports, evaporators, and condensers. Just like cars that run on petrol and diesel, both electric vehicles and hybrids will also require the air con system recharged when the refrigerant gas in the air con system needs replacing. Otherwise, the air con system in your vehicle will not operate effectively and will start to blow warm air. In 2017, European directive 2006/40/EC finally came into full effect. The eagerly anticipated legislation requires that all newly designed cars and LCVs fitted with A/C, and manufactured for use in the EU, must use a refrigerant with a global warming potential (GWP) of 150 or less. GWP measures how much energy a gas absorbs compared to the same quantity of CO2 over a 100-year period, so in simple terms, the higher the number, the bigger the environmental impact.

History of 1234yf

HFO-1234yf was initially considered to have a 100-year GWP of 4, and is now considered to have a 100-year GWP lower than 1. [4] [3] It can be used as a "near drop-in replacement" for R-134a, [12] the product previously used in automobile AC systems, which has a 100-year GWP of 1430. [5] [13] This meant that automakers would not have to make significant modifications in assembly lines or in vehicle system designs to accommodate the product. HFO-1234yf had the lowest switching cost for automakers among the proposed alternatives. [14] [15] HFO 1234yf: The ideal low Global Warming Potential refrigerant for mobile air conditioning and chillers has been developed at Buffalo Research Laboratory by Honeywell Fluorochemicals with the aim of replacing R134a in motor vehicle air conditioning. a b Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion: 2014 Full Report. World Meteorological Organization Global Ozone Research and Monitoring Project—Report No. 55. 2014. p.551. Let Kwik Fit recharge your air con while you wait. We will replace and recharge lubricant and refrigerant levels in line with your manufacturer’s recommendation. If we cannot improve the coolest vent temperature from your car by more than 10% when measured in degrees Celsius - then you pay nothing at all.* The problem was discovered and companies along with governments began to look for an alternative solution to R-134a and to other HFC refrigerants that were currently on the market as early as 2001. That’s less then ten years after the switch from R-12! While there were a plethora of ideas presented such as Hydrocarbons, R-744, or other natural refrigerants there were two companies that were doing the research, development, and work on creating and perfecting a new refrigerant known as HFO-1234yf. These companies were Honeywell and DuPont/Chemours.
