About this deal

Independent: We will tell you exactly what we think of a product and we would never recommend anything we wouldn't use ourselves. If you’re looking for a lawn fertiliser that also does a great job at eliminating pesky weeds and moss, go with Guard-en-Force. A kilo of this stuff will cover (and get rid of) around 500 square metres of moss.

A 7kg bag provides 200m² of lawn coverage, and it should be applied once between April and September when the weeds are actively growing, with a maximum of two applications per year and a gap of at least three months between. Certain versatile lawn feeds can be used for different functions depending on when they’re applied: for example, when applied between September and November the Miracle-Gro EverGreen Premium Plus Lawn Food restores the lawn after the harsh summer and prepares it for the stresses of winter. Similarly, applying it in March helps negate the damaging effects of a cold winter. You can use it all year round if desired, but be careful where you open the tub – some customers have mentioned that accidental spillages inside the house left rust-like stains. It’s also advised to keep children and pets away until at least 96 hours after application and watering. To help you make an informed buying decision, we have produced the below guide regarding moss killers for lawns. What Causes Moss on the Lawn The formula contains no phosphorus, and has an NK ratio of 14-5 meaning it’s high in nitrogen, with a reasonable amount of potassium too.For smaller gardens, this Vitax Green Up Liquid Lawn Feed works well to ‘green up’ the lawn whilst eliminating smaller weeds.

This last point is referred to by Miracle-Gro as their ‘WaterSmart’ formula – it encourages the absorption of water and nutrients into the grass which can help protect it from drought and general stresses resulting from poor conditions. It might seem like a lot of extra effort, to have to apply a treatment to your garden every few months to keep the grass looking nice. Phosphorus (or phosphate) helps with root development, as strong roots mean less disease and fewer pests. It’s best applied in early spring or autumn. You can apply Westland SafeLawn every three weeks between February and September, but it’s advised not to use during either a drought or when the ground is frosted over. This 5.25kg bag should provide 150m² of lawn coverage. Coming in the form of sachets, there’s no need to measure out the powder before use, making guesswork and approximations a thing of the past. It’s easy to apply neatly and, being water soluble, there are no messy granules left on the grass either. This is something that can sometimes be disappointing with other products when they leave traces on the lawn.Whether hoping to fix a sparse lawn or trying to revitalise dead grass, when lawns are in desperate need of attention, reliable and fast-acting products can make all the difference. Miracle-Gro is a well-renowned company for a reason, and their Water Soluble Lawn Food is easy to apply with a sprayer or watering can, often creating visibly greener lawns in just three days. Having a soluble formula also means that there is less likelihood of scorching – this happens when a high concentration of product is applied to one place and burns it and is more common with granules.

They are available in a range of formulas that include organic ingredients to powerful iron sulphate. Application varies with liquid moss killers requiring a pump sprayer or watering can whereas others can be applied by hand.Use the easy-to-use spreader settings table to set Scotts® and EverGreen® spreaders correctly when using our products.
