On this occasion, rather than delving into a dragon’s lair, players are now tiptoeing around the evil Lord Eradikus Prime’s giant spaceship, which is full of precious loot!
There may be one or two cards, but ultimately you have 135 cards (base + expansion) and the trashing capability almost nil.
come home and lead your friends and/or family on a deckbuilding adventure they’ll want to play time and again! This game is always a blast, especially when players start escaping or are knocked out, forcing the game to accelerate to its inevitable noisy climax! If a new adventure row card has the attack icon, cubes get pulled from the bag according to the rage track. The way they intertwine the VP mechanic into every fiber of this game doesn’t make the game feel like a VP game, and I love that.
A single map to play on (well, two, but after your first couple of games you’d always play on the second), and one that unfortunately encouraged a dead sprint to the closest treasure and back out before the dragon could mummer a single, confused, ‘hobbits’? where two to four adventurers attempt to acquire and build their own individual deck of cards during the game - these cards enable them to move through Lord Eradikus’ spaceship, attack enemy guards and procure new cards, all while trying to creep around the ship and avoid any false steps that will result in… Clank!
The other tiles just lay on top of that and with the instruction manual the box lid closes all the way with no issues and very little gap inside. It gives you more to think about as you may be going back and forth to the modules to make sure you hack dataports in two of them. Clank In Space also comes with tons of tokens, a set of unique player minis, and one for Lord Eradikus, as well as some generic cubes and a nifty bag to pull them from. This time, you are on a circular station instead of a space ship, and facing off against the dreaded Commander Preon, a boss lady who knows what kind of cybernetics she likes! Along with setting up the Eradikus marker and the player pawns, each player takes one of their cubes and places it on their respective health track.
The artwork is playful, and the game is colorful, but the components still look relatively realistic between the credit chips, market items, and spaceship board. Every time they take damage, they move the cube up the number of points of damage on the health track. I played Dune Imperium before I played Clank In Space, so I really shouldn’t be surprised at how well the card play intersects with the board. And it came to pass that throughout the land there came such a clamouring for this game about keeping quiet that it sold out before I could get a review copy. Shake up the bag and draw the number of cubes respective to the Eradikus marker on the Rage Track (2 cubes, 3 cubes, et al) You could get lucky and draw all black cubes.The Cloning Vats offer you a sneaky way to protect yourself against bounty hunters (those pesky red cubes that show up near the end of the game).
