About this deal

Considering these are plant-powered bars, I knew that I needed to adjust my expectations going into this review. Generally speaking, plant-based protein bars don’t taste quite as good as their dairy-based counterparts. Going through these Misfits protein bars, it was very interesting to see how similar each bar actually looks. If you didn’t know better, you’d think this was the cookie butter flavor I reviewed previously. Misfits is a very popular brand overseas, and they’re doing their best to break into the US market now as well. What can I say, misfits have really set the boundaries high for a vegan protein bar that provides 15g of protein and still taste epic like a ‘standard’ chocolate bar. Totally recommend even if you aren’t vegan! 🤩 These bars are unbelievable for meeting the above criteria, I can’t believe how good they taste and a whole bar has 6.8g carbs of which 0.9g is sugar (hazelnut ones)

The fact that this is not touted as a keto-friendly cereal is also appealing to me because I tend to enjoy products more when they have carbs to them. Granted, there is very little sugar and it is overall low in carbs, but it’s a bit more appealing to me than a keto cereal. I had heard amazing things about their protein bars, but as a lover of cereal, I needed to give their protein cereal a try first. Misfits’ new vegan cereal launch follows on from a rebrand earlier this month, suggesting a potential change of direction for the company. “As our brand and community have evolved, so too has our image — we hope you guys love our new look as much as we do! With the same great taste, of course,” the brand said on social media. Misfits helped me to stay away from the regular chocolates full of sugar. I've been addicted to sugar since young age. Not anymore. This chocolate caramel bar had me excited that there would be a pleasing caramel layer in this one, but it turns out that it actually had the least amount of caramel of any of the bars I tried. Flavor-wise, this protein bar has a very strong plant-based protein flavor, making it pretty Earthy tasting. You can taste the chocolate, but the speculoos flavor is incredibly minimal. In fact, it only comes through in the aftertaste, and only very slightly. As other people have commented, these are the worst protein bars I’ve ever tasted. Last year a friend gave me a box because she hated them, I tried one and they immediately went in the bin. Recently tried one of their new wafer bars to see if they had improved but unfortunately still have that horrible chemical taste and chalky texture. There’s much better brands out there. There’s a hint of hazelnut in there, but those dark chocolatey crunchy pieces exist inside this bar like all of the others. If it were up to me, I’d switch those out for actual hazelnut pieces to really elevate the flavor. Misfits cereal is very crunchy, has decent flavor overall, and has an impressive amount of protein per serving.

I suppose that’s why they don’t list the cup measurement alongside the weight measurement on this one.

The chocolate Misfits cereal is one of the best-smelling foods my nose has ever had the privilege of sniffing. SOYA Protein Isolate, Tapioca Starch, Inulin (Chicory Root Fibre), Coconut Oil, Cocoa Powder, Natural Flavourings, Salt, Sweetener: Sucralose( Soya ) The interior of each Misfits protein bar is like a crunchy cookie with a thin caramel layer, and there’s a great chocolate coating on each bar. Made with just nuts, seeds, natural flavouring like vanilla extract and either coconut oil or butter, these clean, low-carb and high-fat granolas get the nutritionists’ vote. “There is very little processing here, which is ideal,” says Sarah. “The ingredients are either left raw or gently baked, so the nutritional value isn’t interfered with. The cereals are also free from preservatives, which can be disruptive to the gut microbiome.” However, if you are on a low-fat diet, Clarissa says this granola is best avoided. “There’s 16g of fat per 30g bowl, which is a small portion. Consider using it as a sprinkle on yoghurt rather than eating a whole bowl if you’re watching your fat intake.” However, trying this cereal dry was very disappointing. Yes, you taste some chocolate, but it’s closer to the flavor of chocolate protein powder than it is actual cocoa powder.
